FCUCC Open And Affirming (ONA) Covenant
Jesus declared, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” (John 13:34)
Jesus came to call us all into communion with one another and with God. Jesus tore down social and spiritual barriers which pushed the poor, sick, broken and marginalized into the shadows. We are called to follow His example in today’s world.
Here at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Grand Blanc, Michigan, we have a tradition of welcome. We covenant with God and each other to extend our welcome to persons of all races, sexual orientation, gender identities, family structure, physical or mental ability, economic status, culture or ethnicity, accepting all into the full life and ministry of our church. We affirm that every person has worth and is a bearer of God’s image.
Through full participation in worship, sacraments, fellowship and service, we commit to this covenant with God, to create a safe space where all people can explore their faith, cultivate compassion, and journey together toward a more just and loving world. We pledge ourselves to making justice and inclusivity a reality in this congregation and in the world around us.
We declare ourselves to be open to and affirming of all people. Through our diversity we will strive to grow and practice our faith, transcending any differences we may have.
