Dr. Charles Guerreno
It was announced on January 13 that Reverend Dr. Charles Guerreno (Chuck) will be preaching on Sundays at First Congregational until we hire a senior pastor.
Chuck was born in Tucson, Arizona on December 23, 1948. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. In 1975 he received the Master of Divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary in Webster Groves, Missouri, and earned from the same school the degree of Doctor of Ministry in 1987. He has been married thirty-eight years to his wife Jane.
The Guerreno’s live in Saginaw Township and have two sons: Adam, 29 (married to Danielle in 2007) and John, 27. Chuck was ordained in the United Church of Christ on April 20, 1975. On January 1, 2011 he retired from full-time parish ministry. At his retirement he was in his nineteenth year as senior minister of the First Congregational Church (UCC) of Saginaw. He previously served churches in Arizona, Illinois, and Massachusetts.
He currently serves on the advisory board of St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital. He’s also been on the ethics committee of St. Mary’s for twenty years and is active in the Saginaw Bay clergy circle of the Covenant Association of the Michigan Conference of the United Church of Christ. He belongs to the Leadership Alumni Association of Saginaw County and Saginaw’s Fordney Club, and participates in the MOSTS mentoring program at Chester Miller Elementary School in Saginaw. He’s also been a member of the Saginaw Township Schools sex education task force since 1994.
